The Client

Somerset Psychology Service (SPS) was founded by Dr Martin Horler. Martin is a Chartered Consultant Clinical Psychologist with a wide variety of experience in different adult mental health services since qualifying in 2002.

He has provided therapy for the NHS in primary care, acute psychiatry, private specialist services and forensic settings. He has been the lead Consultant Clinical Psychologist and Head of Department at a low secure psychiatric hospital, as well as providing medico-legal reports for courts and Mental Health Review Tribunals.

The Brief

To design a logo, business card and appointment card which reflects SPS's expertise and professionalism. Martin was keen to stay away from stereotypical mental health images, and was open to using the sea view from one of his offices as inspiration.

The Result

Many avenues were tried and tested resulting in the 'sea view' taking the main inspiration for this logo. The waves through the circle show the waves of water. Water and the sea have many connotations to healing and development, as well as representing calm and still.

The circle is a softer and fluid shape which has connections to movement and growth, perfect for holding the healing and calm waves.

The 'earthy' colours represent personal growth and development.
